j2 Global Acquires Onebox Unified Communications Assets From Call Sciences
Acquisition Includes Subscribers, 'Personal Assistant' Service Offering and Intellectual Property Assets

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- j2 Global Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: JCOM), a leading provider of outsourced, value-added messaging and communications services, today announced that it has acquired the Onebox® unified communications assets from Call Sciences, Ltd., a New Jersey and United Kingdom-based provider of Internet unified communications solutions.

Call Sciences provides its subscribers with unified communications, "find me/follow me," desktop faxing and Web-based email services. j2 Global intends to continue operating the Onebox® services, and over time expects to offer some of those services on j2 Global's more robust service platforms. The company expects to generate a non-material amount of revenue during the current quarter as a result of the acquisition.

This acquisition offers j2 Global a number of key benefits, including:

* Additional paid subscribers
* Full-featured unified communications services, including "find me/follow me," which may be incorporated into future j2 Global offerings
* Strong brand identity through the Onebox name and Website (
* Additional DIDs in the United States and Europe
* Two issued and one pending U.S. patents in the fields of unified messaging and Web-based teleconferencing

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed as the financial impact to j2 Global is immaterial.

I have been using Call Sciences PA for about 5 years. I have been statisfied until last month. They changed their software which deleted all of my personal greetings and settings. They also changed my original phone number to an area code different than my original one. They do offer a toll free number.

I have been trying to make to corrections but I have not been able to contact their technical support people. If you send an email you get an automatic reply offering no help. I did get to speak with a support person but they asked me to patient as they are moving their servers.

If anyone knows how to contact these folks please let me know.

Beep-beep: Very Bad Support!

Great product, very bad customer support: Onebox has such a good product that is really valuable in the small business marketplace. Unfortunately, their customer support is terrible. They don't return phone calls as promised. Don't respond to emails. They make excuses that they are "big" that’s why this happens. Well, they better find the smaller side of their customer support center.

Avoid. Average features and quality, but terrible company, terrible terms of service, terrible customer service. Avoid if at all possible.

I used them for a number of years (2007 - 2010) as a virtual PBX and had no complaints. For the price they represented a decent value. However, in the last few years the number of services available have increased, and prices have dropped. Now they are way over-priced and under-featured. when when I tried to port my 800# to the new provider, they hit me with a $40 port fee, and an additional month's service because they ignored the first two requests to start the porting process. Outrageous behavior, and they were totally deaf to my protests.
