Packetel- 3mo pFax service for $11.85($3.95 per month). Can only recieve incoming faxes with this service; cannot send faxes.

Currently, we offer the following area codes, 408, 415, 650, 510, 925, 831, and you can choose and pick one area code.

I signed up for paketel today. Seems to be a very good and fast service. Can't beat the $3.95 / month for UNLIMITED fax receives. I probably get 500-600 pages a month. This is a very good deal. Of course, I have to have my local fax line forwarded to their california number, but that's ok. I have a 1.95 cent long distance service.
If you want to know which long distance service I have...... email me.

I have been using this service for about 6 months and am very pleased. Very responsive tech support for a non-problem I had. I receive very few faxes. Never missed a fax, prepaid billing scheme means that they never charge you without asking you first, very low rates.

I would like to be able to send faxes, too, but am unwilling to get involved with companies like efax/jfax, etc.

The only complaint I have is that I seem to have to switch over to internet explorer to access my account options on their web site. Not a big deal.

Packetel has more service area now. New York, Arizona, Nevada, Virginia, DC, Maryland, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, etc...you should check to see if your home area is now covered.

I used Mozilla Firefox to access their web site and it seems fine to me.

Just curious, which browser are you using and which pages don't work for you?

Just signed up with Packetel today. So far, everything seems to be working fine. I like the fact that I can provide two emails to receive my faxes. I was using Efax before for 12.95/month, but didn't realize there was a limit of incoming faxes. I shopped around and you can't beat $3.95/month for unlimited incoming. I have very few outgoing faxes so I just use my regular fax machine. Fax is in TIF format, so I can use almost any computer to view my faxes. Unlike Efax, you have to use their software to view your faxes. If you're using a computer that doesn't have Efax's software, you're SOL.

Been trying to sign up for their pFax service for a week now. Their website is indicating my credit cards are bad while they work fine and are in perfect order according to the banks. They respond to emails after a day or so. Can never raise them on the phone; voicemail of "all circuits busy".

Sigh... Will continue looking.

I have been using this service for roughly 4 months now. I am located in Connecticut and several people have told me they are unable to send me faxes. I can't rely on their service for my business so I will have to find another option.

I have Packetel that I use for a small business. It is cheap and works perfectly every time.

Not that great of a service. had them for 6 months. I fax myself several page to archive some docs and it is hit or miss. My fax machine prints a confirmation page - successfully sent however not email (sometimes). However, most of the time I do get them.

I thing that make this service useless is that it does not work with fax modems. Customer service says it is only good for conventional fax machines.

If you are a new customer, i suggest somewhere else.

I dumped my separate fax machine & phone line about 9 months ago (most of what I used to fax is now emailed). I have used my regular phone line (& a mulifunction machine) to send the ocassional fax & pFax to receive. So far, this has been a flawless solution. Initially, I was concerned about a possible "delay" in receiving faxes, but so far I have not detected any. Highly recommended!

Not good -- price is great but faxes get dropped and disappear. Maybe okay for occasional home use but if you need a business fax Packetel is just not an option. Shame.

Close, but not good enough for business. I had to plunk down $3.95 to try it for myself. I confirmed some of the above concerns myself, then asked Packetel customer service to verify.

1) Regarding fax modems, they said "Our system is not compatible with fax modem. Currently, our system is only compatible with regular fax machine."

2) Regarding attempts to email your faxes, they said "When the receiving end is not accepting the fax emails we send, our mail server automatically attempts to resend for a limited number of times. If after a maximum number of tries the faxes are still not accepted by the receiving email server, our mail server will stop resending." This means that any hiccup at all between them and your mailboxes that outlasts their retry cycle will cause your sender to think the fax was successfully transmitted but you will never get the fax. A full mailbox, an ISP problem, a DNS problem, and perhaps even Internet connectivity issues within Packetel are examples of problems that will cause you to lose faxes.

A viable business solution should work with fax modems and it absolutely must include a guaranteed delivery mechanism. Given the nature of email, guaranteed delivery must include some sort of interface such as a user website as a last resort for retrieving your faxes.

I do prefer TIF over PDF as I can freely and easily manipulate TIFs, including flipping, deleting, and reordering pages as necessary, and I can freely and easily convert TIF to PDF for sharing with others. Given a PDF file with common fax problems I do not have a similar way to freely and easily manipulate the PDF.

I also like that this is just a system to receive faxes. I do not want integrated voicemail, and I do not want to pay to send faxes from my computer. I already have those services covered.

I've been using pfax from Packetel for business for over a year. It's cheap and it works perfectly every time.

Well... FYI, a couple important points I just discovered after signing up (am waiting to hear back... I'm assuming they'll refund my 12 months paid in advance). If these issues were addressed on their sign up pages or even in the FAQ's I sure didn't see it (went back to look even). Point number 1... their service is NOT campatible with fax modems. I have a number of clients who use their CPU's to generate faxes (I assume a lot of people do?) so that's a problem (plus I see I should have read deeper in this board to see the fax modem issue mentioned!). The next and fatal issue for me... even if the original fax IS sent from a traditional desktop fax machine... it will never work as I happen to be using an internet phone VOIP service for my incoming fax line (which forwards to their assigned number as they recommended). Their service isn't compatible with VOIP. Bummer. So yeah... not a viable solution for business use.

I have packetel.com service. While i have no complains about getting my faxes and its cheap, what I find most annoying is the slew of promotional items (usually 1 FULL PAGE) of packetel.com services that are embedded in EACH email. Unlike other fax services like efax or myfax (I have tried both of these), I am UNABLE to switch off these packetel.com announcements, touting me to "Try Packetel Voice Service," "Receive Faxes in Adobe PDF Format," "Automatic Payment Option," pay "Paypal Now," "Refer a Friend," and all their details. ITS VERY VERY ANNOYING, especially when its eating my bandwidth on my mobile service when traveling. Furthermore, the advertisements are very blaring -- varying big fonts, bold fonts, colors, annoying to the eyes when you are trying to download your fax.

Suggestion to Packetel.com (trust me I have spokened to them),
- let users have the ability to switch off these announcements
- or limit your advertisement to just one item and rotate the messages.

Below is a sample of their advertisement each time you get the mail. (unable to replicate the font sizes and colors here).

I have been a pfax user for about 6 months and I am now looking for a more reliable provider. In the past two months I have experienced continuous busy signals on my pfax line over the course of a day and most recently a client tried to fax 6 times and each time the fax failed due to "poor line quality", but he had no problem faxing it directly to my home fax machine.

I would appreciate any feedback on a very reliable service which is cost effective for receiving 100 pages or so per month.

Thanks.

What is a FAX MODEM? According to Wiki, fax modem is a converged device, a modem with the capability of handling fax transmissions.

FAX MODEM is extremely old fax equipment that seldom use by fax users.

FAX MODEM was mainly used in the early 90's. Now largely replaced by E-mail, PC-based faxing with a fax/modem is more-and-more a rarity. Packetel will try to send the fax to the user the best way we know how, and we only use new equipment to accommodate more advance fax system.
Moreover, in term of you not receiving the fax in the email, once the fax converted to an email form, our mail server will send the fax to your email instantly (1 minute or less). Thus, if your mail server happens to go down during that time for whatever reason, our mail server will try to resend it until it can reach your mail server. Also, we allow each fax account to have two emails, so if you have a backup email there shouldn’t be any reason why you not getting the faxes. When Packetel send a fax from the mail server, we do not have a full control of what your mail server can and cannot accept. Therefore, we have encouraged user to add our email (pfax@pfax.packetel.com) to the address book/contact list right after signup completed to prevent filtering issue.

I have been using Pfax in my

I have been using Pfax in my office for about 3 months and it is a disaster! Approximately 1/2 of the multi page faxes sent to us are garbled pages, incomplete pages, etc. Their technical support is basically non existent and no live support. Stay away from this service like the plague!

Your service is just not

Your service is just not reliable. It constantly cuts off multiple page faxes and tech support is non existent-just lip service. It's a shame and a hassle after we have given out our fax # to our clientele.

I signed up for three months

1

I signed up for three months and then found out that I could not send faxes from my computer using the Windows fax service. The first page would go through and then an error message would appear. I sent an email to Packetel and received the response below. I then inquired about terminating the service and receiving a refund, but I never received a response. I primarily signed up to receive faxes from one particular sender who happens to use a traditional fax machine so it is providing its primary function, but I will not renew.

Dear Customer,

We apologize for the inconvenience. Currently, we are not compatible with fax modem/cable
modem or computerized faxes, we are only compatible with traditional landline fax
machines.

If you have any further questions, please contact us.

Best Regards,

Packetel Support

Packet has the WORST customer

1

Packet has the WORST customer service in the industry. They give you ZERO notice that your fax number is not working if, say, your wallet gets stolen and you deactivate the card on file. AVOID AVOID AVOID!

Don't do it, don't use this

1

Don't do it, don't use this fax service. Sure it's easy to establish service. They will take your money which is always easy. The problem is when you want them to stop taking your money, when you want or need to deactivate service. It must be a common phenomena because I kept receiving faxes for previous account holders who had had the fax number before me. It took only one day for Pfax/Packetel to take my money, but they dragged their feet in refunding money for almost a month, stating it will take 10 business days and then after that 5 business days. They cheated me out of my money. Don't let them cheat you out of yours.

I have been using this

I have been using this service for couple of months. It is working fine for me. I am accessing my faxes through email when I am in client site or at home. It gives unlimited incoming faxes. I am also using this as virtual storage; I am sending fax to my own number all these pages gets stored electronically in my email. The Pdf file format offered by this company is very useful.

PACKATEL PROMO CODE! PACKATEL DISCOUNT CODE!I have also been using Packatel for a few months and I think it works great! I've been looking at the dates on most of the complaints and they started 4 years ago. I'm sure they have addressed most, if not all of these problems. I like that they have the option to save as pdf or tif. I also like that you can sign up for long distance if you need it, or you can sign up to send faxes. They also have a text message feature to alert you if you get a new fax (for those who don't have a blackberry).
